Summit Lake (elevation 12830 feet) is accessible via Highway 5, the highest highway in the US and in the world, starting from the Echo Lake Lodge. Six years ago, I drove to Mount Evans (elevation 14360 feet) from Summit Lake, but left quickly because oxygen there was so thin. Today Summit Lake is the last stop because the highway after Summit Lake is closed.
