With enough day light (even grey sky today), the noise problem was eliminated 100% in P mode, and 90% in manual mode.

Although postage was more than the camera today, I bought two recently. The photos of the clock and after were captured in macro mode, the rest of the shots were in manual mode, all hand-held. Indoor lamp light.

Carrier Furnace with Secondary Heat Exchanger
If you smell fuel gas coming out of the exhaust of your home furnace, get it fixed immediately. And if your furnace has a secondary heat exchanger, it is under warranty. (Warranty is only 20 or 25 yr not lifetime). That may save you $3000.
