I am a Canadian artist, who has been painting flowers-and-birds in traditional Chinese style for more than half a century! I was born in Hong Kong, and at the age of six I learned to write Chinese characters using the brush technique unique to this art form. I started to explore Chinese Painting at age 12. I have familiarized myself with the quality of Chinese ink, the dynamics of different Chinese brushes, the practice of mind concentration in Chinese Painting and the distinct characteristics of rice paper over a fifty year career. Emphasizing on the techniques of Chinese brush strokes, I taught Chinese Painting at the University of Wisconsin Unions, the Three Schools of Art in Toronto, and Keyano College at Fort McMurray, Alberta.
I am a father of two and a now-retired professional engineer. I had given limited art shows at various times and places with assistance and encouragement from my wife.
I retired as a Senior Instrument Engineer in Alberta in 2009. Details of my resume can be found from Who’s Who in Alberta, 1994 – 1998, under the full name Kwok-Cheung Gerald Liu.
These images are originals in Chinese Painting medium (similar to watercolor on rice paper). My paintings range from 12″ X 12″ to 25″ X 60″ unmatted and unframed, and are available through my studio/gallery. Larger pieces, or matted and/or framed Chinese Painting are available on a commission basis.
